Meet the panel
Dr John McVeigh is the Chancellor of the 51²è¹Ý and has a strong background in agribusiness and regional development. He has held various leadership roles, including Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry and Cabinet Minister for Regional Development. John is passionate about enhancing regional economies and has led several initiatives, such as the Southern Queensland/Northern New South Wales Drought Resilience Adoption and Innovation Hub. He is also the Executive Director of Toowoomba Surat Basin Enterprise, advocating for growth and development in Southeast Queensland.
Georgie Somerset is an advocate for the Australian agricultural industry, with a focus on sustainability and innovative practices. As an industry leader, Georgie has been instrumental in pushing for advancements in agribusiness, renewable energy, and climate resilience in rural areas. She has board experience across the not-for-profit, government and industry sectors as former General President of AgForce Queensland Farmers Limited, current Chair of the Royal Flying Doctor Service (Queensland section), Deputy Chair of Australian Broadcasting Corporation, Chair of Red Earth Community Foundation and Director of Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal and National Farmers Federation. Georgie's passion for advocating for rural Australia and her service to primary industries and the community saw her named as a Member of the Order of Australia in 2020.
Mac Drysdale is a leading innovator in the agribusiness sector, focusing on sustainable practices and the future of regional economies. He is part of a long-time grazing family from the Augathella area of Western Queensland, where he operates an organic grazing operation. With extensive experience in precision agriculture and renewable energy, Mac is passionate about driving growth and supporting the future of agribusiness in regional Australia.
Jodie Taylor brings over 25 years of local government experience, including 15 years with the Council. Previously serving as General Manager for Community and Liveability, she was appointed CEO of the Western Downs Regional Council in December 2021. Her leadership focuses on driving economic development and fostering community growth. Jodie is committed to diversifying the region's industries to ensure long-term sustainability.
